Are you an aspiring musician? This summer, join us for a fun-filled week of songwriting with California Music Studios. Camp attendees will work with professional recording artists as they learn how to write and compose their own original songs. They’ll learn about music production as they record their song, and the week will end with a live performance. Camp will be held at CMS headquarters in Leucadia, just a five minute walk from Ponto Beach.

Camp attendees will get the exciting opportunity to learn from talented songwriters, producers and industry professionals, including:

Alex Cabrera, Camp Director, Alex Cabrera holds a BA in Music from Point Loma Nazarene University where she was classically trained as an opera singer. Ms. Cabrera is a versatile performer who entertains audiences throughout Southern California. (read more)

Jessica Lerner, Guest Speaker, acclaimed singer/songwriter and pianist who performs a wide variety of styles throughout San Diego

Steve Morris, Guest Speaker, former guitarist and songwriter for internationally acclaimed rock band Unwritten Law

Andy Altman, Guest Speaker, co-founder of Gigtown, the local music platform connecting musicians and performance venues across the United States

Brian Wahlstrom, Guest Speaker, Label Manager of One Week Records and founding member of rock bands Scorpios, Gods of Mount Olympus and Bandaid Brigade, who received his Master’s from the Manhattan School of Music

Joe Cardillo, Guest Speaker, a versatile musician and songwriter who has toured the United States and opened for many notable bands, including Sister Hazel and Dispatch

  • Open to all ages and instruments
  • 4 sessions throughout the summer
  • Each sessions is 1 week long, Monday-Friday, from 9:30-2:30 PM
  • Extended hours available!

Tuition:

  • Current CMS students: $395
  • Non-CMS students: $425, plus $35 registration
  • Early drop-off/late pickup: $100

Camp Director

Alex Cabrera holds a Bachelors degree in music from Point Loma Nazarene University where she was classically trained as an opera singer. Ms. Cabrera is a versatile performer who entertains audiences throughout Southern California. With her guitar, keyboard and Ukulele, she can be seen performing at the Westgate Hotel, Cicciotti’s Trattoria, Masters, The Bridges and The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, The Roxy, Crush, Priority Public House and Ignite. Alex’s passion for vocal performance spans multiple music genres from classical, pop, R&B to country and rock. Alex Cabrera has an extensive performance background that began with both high school choirs and show choirs. She has performed with internationally acclaimed Tenor, Daniel Hendrick, master classical guitarist Julio De La Huerta, San Diego Opera’s Bernardo Bermudez and Eric Whitacre at Carnegie Hall. She has also performed with contemporary local artists such as Brian Wahlstrom, Joe Cardillo, Dave Booda, Franky Romeo and with the band 33 1/3 Degrees. Most recently Alex was a featured performer for the La Jolla Village’s “Break in the Village Sip and Shop”. As a child, Alex was a YMCA camp attendee for nearly 9 years. She understands the importance of providing a fun, creative and safe summer camp. Under Alex Cabrera’s direction, Summer Songwriting Camp will provide all young musicians with the opportunity to create wonderful music memories and lasting friendships.
